Protem is a Didsbury-based professional counselling service founded on Christian principles. Since being established in 1990, Protem has positively impacted thousands of people’s lives.
Protem offers impartial and non-judgemental counselling to all – Christians, people of other faiths and people of no faith. We believe in the uniqueness of each individual, and respect each person’s right to form their own values.
Affiliated to The Association of Christians in Counselling (ACC) and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), Protem operates to the highest standards of professional and ethical practice.
Our counsellors have training in a range of therapeutic approaches and are experienced in dealing with a wide range of issues. These include depression and anxiety, bereavement, low self-esteem, eating disorders, relationship and sexual issues, anger issues, phobias, sexual abuse and post-traumatic stress and spiritual/faith issues.
Having recently moved into our own premises, Protem has entered a new phase in its history. Our new building, specifically adapted for counselling, offers comfortable and accessible counselling rooms a stone’s throw from the heart of Didsbury.
The name Protem is a Latin term which can be translated as ‘for the time being’. This sentiment captures our belief that counselling is about helping and supporting today… it’s where where we are at… it’s for the moment.
